We are mainly comprised of local artists (primarily visual & performing) and arts administrators, who got together in early 2009 to form an arts council in Port Angeles. Since our initial planning meetings, we have established a regular monthly meeting, created a web site, established non-profit status, and partnered with a number of local organizations to further our mission of supporting the arts locally. We now have over 40 members, and have worked with the Juan De Fuca Festival of the Arts and Arts in Action, both local arts oriented festivals. We have provided participatory art activity for kids, artist demonstrations, and recently completed our first Young At Art program, involving the creation and downtown Port Angeles display of over 1000 pieces of art by local K-8th grade classes. We participate in the Northwest Kiwanis Summer Camp for people with disabilities by providing both art teachers and financial support for local camper scholarships and supplies. We are involved with and support the Second Weekend Art Event in downtown Port Angeles, which showcases the work of local artists in a monthly weekend event. Our community includes organizations such as the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, Peninsula College, Port Angeles Community Playhouse, North Olympic Library System,  and the Port Angeles Symphony.

As we grow, we plan to increase our educational and promotional activities, and increase our participation with other arts organizations in the area. We are open to anyone either working or interested in any of the arts, including visual fine and commercial arts, all the performing arts including musical performance, theater, and film, and also the literary arts. As a city with an active, diverse and growing arts community, we are also able to provide a forum for arts related issues to be discussed, and provide information and advice to local government when dealing with public art. We have been involved with the city of Port Angeles as part of the planning process for the downtown waterfront improvement project, and will continue to take an active role in that process. The Port Angeles Arts Council welcomes your interest and involvement in any of our activities, and hope you will join us in helping improve the quality of life for the Port Angeles area, its residents, and visitors.
