Call for Artists
Port Townsend Arts Commission
Port Townsend, Washington
The City of Port Townsend, Washington, requests applications from artists able to plan and complete an outdoor art installation for its historic Uptown district. The work is to be a focus of interest in a public space that is anchored by a popular farmers’ market and a community center and surrounded by quirky and vibrant businesses and charming Victorian neighborhoods. It should express the spirit of this setting in a way that invites locals and tourists to pause, converse, and enjoy their participation in our community.
This embodiment of Uptown Port Townsend is to be a permanent landmark—durable and easily maintained in the wind and rain of a marine climate. It must also be touchable and safe for children. Aside from these caveats, we invite creative interpretations of the project, which might be realized through sculpture, mosaics, painting, lighting, seating, plantings, etc.
